Protiviti Dallas recently partnered with Feeding Children Everywhere for its annual i on Hunger meal packing event.

With the help of clients and alumni, 341 volunteers successfully packed 50,112 meals – all of which will benefit Family Legacy Missions, a non-profit that provides free education to children in Zambia. It is especially meaningful that Family Legacy is the beneficiary of this event because the organization’s CFO, Sommer Clayman, is also an alumna of the Protiviti Dallas office.

As for the packed meals, the impact is huge: “The kids that come to our schools have not eaten before they arrive. When we first opened the schools, we had trouble keeping the kids’ attention because they were hungry and couldn’t focus in the classroom. Providing a hot meal has really changed that.”

In addition to providing daily lunches to the students, the packed meals serve an equally important purpose as a reward for attendance. The majority of children the organization sponsors are orphans and while they want to attend school, they’re encouraged by their caretakers to contribute to the household by working or begging in the streets. But when a student attends school consistently over a three week period, they are awarded with meals to take home as a gift to their caretakers.2017 Dallas IOH Event 129

Family Legacy ships containers of food to Zambia twice per year. The meals packed at this event will ship this fall and Protiviti Dallas is looking forward to learning about its impact.

“At the event, you don’t always realize the benefits,” says Sommer. “But for our kids on the other side of the ocean, it’s the only meal they’re getting that day. This is an event that has huge dividends all around the world and we’re thankful Protiviti is taking the time and resources to do that.”

Special thanks to our alumni and clients who packed meals with us! Make sure you’re registered with us to receive invitations to future i on Hunger events. You can also read more about Sommer Clayman in our Alumni Spotlight Series
